WorldPeatland stakeholder workshop
Bringing together peatland communities worldwide, the WorldPeatland team embarked on a journey to delve into the specific requirements of a wide range of peatland stakeholders.
The workshop was held at the Space Park in Leicester, a hub renowned for pioneering research in the UK space sector. Our workshop was both an in-person event and online, using state of the art video conferencing facilities at the Space Park enabled international peatland representatives to engage in interesting and stimulating conversations across a wide range of related topics. We organized two sessions tailored to accommodate attendees from both western and eastern timezones to get the best representation possible.
One of the highlights of the workshop was the interactive ‘whiteboard’ sessions between WorldPeatland team members and the stakeholders. These sessions were categorized based on the products and indices to be developed during the project, including Mapping, Monitoring, Integrated Indicators, and Software Tools. A broad range of contributions were provided, from which common themes could be drawn, and further discussed… and for those interested, the requirements analysis document will be made available online.
From innovative solutions to confronting challenges, our discussions illuminated the path ahead for peatlands globally. Stay tuned as we persist in leveraging the power of earth observation in our pursuit of sustainable peatland management.
